Discover Bad Kreuznach on the Nahe river
There are two places where it is possible to take a boat out on the Nahe: from the millpond by the bridge houses in Bad Kreuznach, or from the ferry business near the Kurpark gardens in Bad Münster am Stein.
Boat hire on the Nahe river, Bad Kreuznach
Bad Kreuznach even has its own little “harbour”! It is directly by the Alte Nahebrücke bridge near the bridge houses. A boat trip along the mill canal shows Bad Kreuznach from its most charming side. Gliding through the middle of the town in a rowing or paddle boat past the Kurpark gardens and the weir at Elisabethquelle spring to the main arm of the Nahe river and the Roseninsel (Rose Island) as far as Salinental valley, you learn a lot of interesting things about the history of the town and how it has learned to live with the permanent threat of flooding. If you wish, you can enjoy a wine-tasting session, a snack or a meal.
The Huttental ferry - an original
For over 300 years, a hand-drawn ferry has provided passage from Bad Münster am Stein to the footpath leading up to the ruins of Rheingrafenstein castle. Not only is the ferry the most convenient way to get across from the Kurpark gardens to the Rheingrafenstein hiking area, it is also possible to book it for a special event: wine-tasting sessions, concerts or a cultural event - all against the backdrop of an unspoilt landscape. Ferryman Hajo Gellweiler sees it as his calling to share his love for the Nahe region. The ferry can be booked at Hajos Ferry direct.
