Magical blend of stone and landscape

THE STONE SCULPTURE PARK. In 1968, the sculptors Kubach-Wilmsen set up their open-air atelier not far from the tremendous backdrop of the Rotenfels massif.

Fondation Kubach-Wilmsen Stone Sculpture Park and museum

The Kubach-Wilmsen family have had their atelier in Ebernburg since 1968. It looks out on Ebernburg castle and the rock face of the Rotenfels (red rock) massif. Their stone sculptures have made Wolfgang Kubach and Anna Kubach-Wilmsen famous the world over - particularly their book towers or their “landscape holes”. In Ebernburg, the two realised their vision of a sculpture park designe to bring together stones from around the world. The exposition shows 65 works sculpted in stone. Part of the park is a museum designed by the world-famous Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Kubach and Wilmsen have thus realised a fascinating “land art” concept where the sculptures, museum and the rock formations of the Rotenfels massif offer a captivating overall spectacle which reveals new facets in changing moods of lighting.
