Salzmarkt in the historical quarter

Salzmarkt square lies in the heart of the historical quarter. Here, between the butchers’ and tanners’ quarters, was where salt was traded until the 19th century. It was needed by tanners and butchers alike, as well as all private households. Today, the Salzmarkt is where to find the restaurants, bars and cafés of the historical quarter, including the town’s oldest tavern, the Krone.
