Salinental valley – Europe’s largest open-air inhalatorium

Bad Kreuznach’s Salinental valley got its name from the extraction of salt from the brine springs. The huge graduation walls are particularly impressive. These wooden structures stand 10 metres high and are filled on each side with bundles of blackthorn brushwood (sloe). In total, the graduation walls are 1.1 km in length and have a surface area of over 8,000 square metres through which saline water trickles and evaporates, creating a fresh microclimate like that of a seaside town. The soothing salty air pervades the Salinental valley health park. In the Kurpark gardens in Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg there is a further 150-metre long graduation wall, while in Bad Kreuznach’s Kurpark gardens there are two smaller graduation walls.
